What motivation would one have in starting a puzzle of a thousand pieces, knowing that one piece is missing from the start, well, I say start the puzzle. While connecting the pieces keep an eye out for that missing piece. If the piece never shows up, scatter the rest of them on the floor and use the pieces for something else.

Don’t let a wall stop you from seeing there once was a staircase that led to a room.
